Letter from Executive Director
Aloha Mai!
Welcome to Professional Adoption and Community Services located on the island of Hawaii. Following the retirement of our founder, Monroe Woollard, we have been busily restructuring to assure that our services meet the high standards set for the families we serve.
My name is Constance “Conny” Santana and I come to Professional Adoption and Community Services with over twenty years of Child Welfare experience in the state of Hawaii. My career in Child Welfare included direct service provision, supervision and administration.
My personal life experience has also given me a unique perspective in regard to adoption. I spent much of my childhood in a girls’ home (with the historic name, St. Mary’s Female Orphanage Asylum carved into its edifice). Here I watched from the sideline as some fortunate girls and families were united in adoption.
Later, following the birth of my son, I had the precious opportunity to adopt two daughters, one as an infant via open private adoption and one as a prepubescent child with intact memories of her family of origin. As you can well imagine, these adoption experiences increased my understanding of how adoption works in families. We love each of our three children and we feel that our lives have been greatly enriched by their
presence in our lives. My goal is to help others have the opportunity to increase their families with children as well.
Our organization is a member of the Joint Council on International Children's Services, although we currently are not Hague accredited. Therefore, we do not provide full international adoption services at this time. We will continue to provide high quality home studies and other needed social work services for families involved in domestic as well as international adoptions as allowed by Convention.
